Novak Djokovic Delivers Caution to Jannik Sinner: Doping Ban Will Follow Him Like a "Shadow"
Novak Djokovic has cautioned Jannik Sinner that his three-month doping suspension will persist over his career like a "cloud" – and raised doubts about the scheduling of the penalty in the previous season.
The Ban Explained
Sinner completed a three-month suspension in February 2025 after the global anti-doping body approved his account that a prohibited performance-enhancing substance, clostebol, had been ingested unintentionally.
"That cloud will follow him just as the Covid controversy will follow me, for the rest of his, or my career," Djokovic stated in a discussion on Piers Morgan: Uncensored.
"It's just something that, it was so major, and after such events, over time it will fade, but I believe it won't fully vanish. There will inevitably exist a certain group of people that will always try to bring that forward."
The Champion's Viewpoint
Djokovic expressed belief that Sinner, a regular practice partner, "didn't do it on purpose", but he proceeded to question how the player arranged to serve his time without sitting out any major tournaments.
"The absence of openness, the inconsistency, the convenience [of] the ban occurring between major events, so he doesn't miss out the others – it's just it was very, very odd," he further commented.

"I really don't like how the case was being handled and it was evident numerous fellow athletes, across both tours, who had some similar situations coming out in the media and complaining that it was a preferable treatment."
